Wolfgang Gassner was born in Erlangen, Germany in 1960. After completing his studies in material sciences and serving for 2 years as project manager for the department of material sciences at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg, he joined Siemens AG in Munich in 1988. It was during this time that he first became interested in patent law. After the conferral of his doctorate, Dr. Gassner began his education to become a patent atterney at a patent law firm in Munich in 1991. His main responsibility there was protecting the inventions of a group of foreign companies.
In 1994 Gassner passed the patent bar exam in Munich and was admitted to practice as a patent attorney. He is also a representative at the European Union Intellectual Property Office in Alicante, Spain. In addition, he is a professional representative before the European Patent Office.
He freelanced for several ip law firms in Munich and Nuremberg before founding his own law firm in 1996 from which the partnership "Dr. Gassner & Partner" was formed in 2002.
